Official
Opening of Limen House

Chartered Building Company Limen Construction Limited held an official
opening of their new offices at Limen House on the Medway City Estate
during the afternoon of Thursday 15th September 2005.
The
official opening was preceded by an open debate on the perceived skills
shortages and the current state of construction skills training in Kent.
The debate was attended by representatives from local and regional training
bodies including Mid-Kent College, the University of Kent, Carillion
Construction Training, the Royal School of Military Engineering, the
Construction Industry Council, the South East Construction Forum and
Accelerating Change in Built Environment Education.
The
opportunity to share knowledge with the military both in terms of ideology
and methodology was particularly interesting and identified the high
standard of their courses. However the need for clear benchmarking and
transferability of military-specific training would be advantageous,
especially as the military have embraced the full remit of NVQ training.
Carillion
Construction Training identified that applications for training courses
far outweighed the number of industry placements, which begs the question
why are employers not willing to commit to taking on trainees?
Limen
Construction currently has five trade apprentices and one undergraduate
trainee and have found Carillion Construction Training and Mid-Kent
College, via their foundation degree programme, have provided candidates
who quickly integrated to become valued staff members. With Carillion
undertaking all of the administration work this has enabled Limen Construction
to tailor the on-site training to suit their particular needs.
Following
the debate Limen House was officially opened by Major (Retd) Robin Alexander
of the Royal School of Military Engineering.
