Following an invitation from Remade Kent And Medway, Limen Construction
Limited were pleased to provide an input into the consultation
process regarding the introduction of Site Waste Management Plans.
The opportunity consisted of a visit by a consultant who initially
discussed our current procedures and then provided considered
constructive feedback about how we could potentially implement
future legislation, whilst minimising the impact on our core business.
Remade Kent
And Medway was equally keen to appreciate our particular difficulties;
for example in providing a number of waste specific skips on a
restricted site.
The second
part of the programme was a series of site visits to assess our
operations in progress and to take the chance to discuss the issues
with our supply chain.
The whole
exercise along with an informal feedback session was most beneficial
as it not only provided a conduit to comment on future legislation
but allowed us to collaborate and share knowledge with other like
minded contractors.
This process
identified procurement as one particular area where an impact
could be made; whereby wider use of domestic subcontracts in lieu
of labour only subcontracts would place greater emphasis on material
ownership and therefore subsequently reduce waste.
Another pleasing
aspect was experiencing Government working with SME's and assisting
us in our business development.
